Citta Sospesa, Italian for Suspended City, proposes a new elevated level built above Bologna Central Station's rail tracks, continuing the city's urban fabric and reconnecting its northern and southern districts. Streets, plazas, and public space sit atop the station in a contemporary interpretation of local arcades, with a mixed-use program of hotel, office, residential, and masterplan components across 200,000 square meters.
Openings cut through the elevated square to create visual connections between the public deck and the platforms below, letting daylight reach the trains and letting travelers glimpse the city above. Ramps, elevators, and escalators keep the new level accessible, while rooftop areas offer relaxation space with views across Bologna.
