I joined the Department of Environmental Design at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2010, and I've taught across the entire curriculum from the first foundational studios through final capstone studios. I feel it is a great honor and privilege to be able to collaborate with such talented and principled students. I hold our work together in the highest esteem.
My teaching and design work circle the same question: how do people build the judgment, resilience, empathy, and agency to make choices they can stand behind? I'd rather a student have one simple idea they can defend than five clever ones they can't. And I want the technology we use, AI included, to stay rooted in human and ecological experience rather than replace the thinking it's supposed to support.
Outside the classroom, I coordinate curriculum, chair committees, build community partnerships, and help other faculty work out their own version of this. It's the same practice by other means: building the conditions where people can do ambitious work together, and actually finish it.
